Other
Ryan is a Cleveland-area native, born and raised in North Olmsted, Ohio. Ryan graduated cum laude from the Ohio State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, and received his law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law. Throughout law school, Ryan focused his studies on protecting the rights of the injured, and on protecting the rights of our country's laborers.
Since graduating law school, Ryan has helped his clients obtain millions of dollars in jury verdicts and settlements. He has represented individuals with injuries ranging from severe brain damage, to shoulder, knee, and back injuries. Ryan has extensive experience defending the rights of injured railroad workers bringing claims under the Federal Employers' Liability Act, the Locomotive Inspection Act, and the Safety Appliance Act. His efforts have resulted in numerous summary judgment rulings in favor of his clients, forcing the railroads to take responsibility for not providing their employees safe places to work. Most recently, Ryan represented a locomotive engineer who was exposed to diesel exhaust in the cabs of locomotives over the course of his 22 year railroad career. This exposure resulted in the engineer contracting asthma. The railroad refused to accept responsibility for injuring this engineer, and the case proceeded to trial. After a five day trial, a Toledo, Ohio jury returned a verdict in favor of Ryan's client for $2.6 million.
In addition to representing individual injury victims, Ryan has represented the public at large. Ryan represented members of the public in a class action lawsuit in Graniteville, South Carolina, where a train derailed and released chlorine gas, resulting in numerous deaths and serious injuries. Ryan also represented members of the public in Painesville, Ohio where a CSX Transportation train derailed, burned for four days, and released chemicals into the surrounding community.
While not busy representing his clients, Ryan enjoys a variety of intramural sports and spending time with his wife, Sala, who is a not-for-profit public interest attorney.
